Mourinho: Ronaldo Had No Education
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has launched another amazing attack the war of word on Ronaldo by claiming immature and had no education for his criticisms. Mourinho said last week that United tend to benefit from penalty decisions and that the rules were different for the two clubs.
Ronaldo responded "Does not know how to admit his own."
And last night Mourinho went a step further, claiming the Madeira-born player's upbringing may be undermining him.
"It's a game where a kid had some statements not very . . . not showing maturity and respect, maybe difficult childhood, no education, maybe the consequence of that. Sir Alex felt he had to protect his boy. But normal things . . . I have no problems with him (Ferguson). I have no problem with the boy," said Mourinho.

Giggs: Manchester United Can Be Confident Go Through
Ryan GiggsRyan Giggs says Manchester United remain confident of overcoming AC Milan after last night's 3-2 Champions League first-leg triumph at Old Trafford.
"It was always going to be tough," he told MUTV. "We didn't want to give away goals but we've got to go out there with confidence.
"It's not always possible to play great football every week, so not playing well and winning can make all the difference, especially at this stage of the season. We've done it a few times this season and it's what we used to do when we were winning titles."
Giggs, who supplied the pass for Rooney's injury-time winner, praised the character shown in coming back from conceding two goals in the first half at Old Trafford. He feels United are capable of scoring at San Siro like first leg, with PFA Player of the Year Cristiano Ronaldo also in fine form.
"If we keep our tempo and keep our shape we will create chances," said Giggs.
"Of course it will be difficult at the San Siro, but I saw enough in our second-half display to know we can get a good result."
"We knew at half-time if we did not panic we would be able to carve out openings and that's what happened.
"We kept playing our football and showed a lot of patience.
"To get the winner in stoppage time showed a lot of character. I am pleased we came back so well and put most of our chances away.
"We ended the game on a high and can go there with confidence, although maybe we will need to defend better."

"I think in the second half we dominated. We got hold of it and the equaliser set us up to go and win it.
"It gives us a magnificent chance now. We will be going over there with a big chance.
"We are in front and they know they have a difficult game now.
"We are chasing the title and this is the biggest boost we could have got. It will give us a boost I am sure of it."
"Because of the way we played, there were moments when Wayne wasn't involved as much. But his contribution was fantastic and his movement off the ball was out of this world. They couldn't handle him, he was first-class."

Man Utd 3 - 2 AC Milan
Rooney after goalManchester United's Wayne Rooney took his team to victory with a last-minute goal against Milan in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-final.Cristiano Ronaldo's fifth minute after corner kick and Milan's goalie Dida palmed it into his own post, only for AC Milan to draw level through Kaka's angled drive after 21 minutes. Ronaldo (Man Utd) V Kaka (Milan)
Ronaldo vs Kaka Champions League semi-final first leg is not just contest for Europe's greatest contest, but also place to best young talents player Ronaldo and Kaka. They are also pride for their club and fans. Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo are the best two players in the world at the moment. The styles may be different, but the natural gifts and ability to change the course of a match in an instant are the same.Ronaldo's tricks, feints and step-overs have finally been channelled into devastating end product - while the Kaka package is just as complete.
Team-mate Patrice Evra describes his approach to the game in colourful fashion: "Nobody can stop him. Probably the only way to do it is to kill him.

"When he runs at you, you try to grab his shirt or do whatever you can. But he just goes past you, makes fun out of you and leaves you kicking the air.

"Even when he is sitting on a bike, Cristiano is doing tricks. He eats with the ball, he watches TV with the ball. He probably even sleeps with the ball."
Kaka is not really about tricks, but he is a fantastic footballer. He has great physique, a great touch, and fantastic technique. He is also a great finisher and a good header of the ball with excellent balance.
He does have good movement, which brings him into different positions on the field. That shouldn't be the biggest problem for Milan, because English teams always play zonal defending anyway.
Brazil great Pele is more cautious about the status of the two young stars, saying: "To mention Ronaldo as one of the best players in the world is very soon. We have Kaka, who plays very well too.

"Four or five years ago, we had Ronaldinho in good shape. We have to wait a little bit. Let's see, in one or two more years, if they keep at the same level."

Man Utd 1-1 Middlesbrough
United took an early lead when Kieran Richardson slotted home after Wayne Rooney had collected Paul Scholes' pass and rounded Boro keeper Mark Schwarzer. Viduka equalized by beating United defender Wes Brown with a diving header from a cross by Stewart Downing.Rooney had several late chances and Michael Carrick watched an 89th-minute shot go over the bar as United dominated but could not find a winner. Rio Ferdinand went off at half-time with a groin injury and was struggling shortly before Viduka's goal.
"The injuries to Rio Ferdinand and Kieran Richardson killed us in the first half," said Ferguson.United brought on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but it was Boro who next threatened as Lee Cattermole went agonisingly close with a good powerful shot.Ole did get the ball in the net, but all he earned was a booking for unsporting behaviour towards Schwarzer. I think this is a bad game of united at home in this season.

Terry: Ronaldo Is The Best In The World
John Terry has said Cristiano Ronaldo as the best player in the world. Terry claimed the senior award in 2005, and he believes that Ronaldo is currently pushing ahead of United team-mates Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes, as well as Cesc Fabregas, Steven Gerrard and his own Chelsea colleague Didier Drogba who have also made the shortlist. "I could watch United just to watch him. He does things no-one else in the world is doing at the minute," he said. "He's the best in the world. At his best, not many people can stop him." "It was understandable after knocking us out of the World Cup, but he has done all his talking on the pitch," said Terry. "I could watch Manchester United just to watch him. He does things with the ball that you don't see anyone else in the world doing the at the minute. He is the best in the world at the moment."When he is at his best I don't think there are many people who can stop him. When he is running at you like he does with his skills and tricks, you don't know which way he is going."If Ronaldo claims the prestigious award on Sunday, he will become the fourth United player to do so since the turn of the Millennium, joining Teddy Sheringham, Roy Keane and Ruud van Nistelrooy.

United Are Better
Boss MilanCarlo Ancelotti admits United pose a greater threat than when his side knocked the Reds out of the Champions League two seasons ago. United were beaten 1-0 twice in the 2004/05 second round, but Ancelotti admits the Reds are a different proposition with their subsequent maturation. "They have different qualities from Bayern, but we beat them twice two years ago and have the small advantage of playing the second leg on home turf.“They have got some more experience into their best players like Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo. They have the same approach as back then, but with more quality now.”“Manchester United are a strong side, but at this stage we are happy to be facing them, as we certainly had less of a chance of going through than Bayern going into the second leg.”
Milan manager Gandini admits Milan have great respect for United, but says the Rossoneri will approach the semi-final in bullish mood. "We are confident going into the semi-final," Gandini told Sky Sports News. "Man United is one of the best European clubs in history and one of the best playing now. "They showed us how strong they are. We know them very well, we have a great relationship with the club and the fans and we have strong and special memories of Old Trafford because of the final in 2003. "Manchester United are one of the best clubs. They are young and physical and play technically very well and have fantastic players like Ronaldo, Rooney and the never-ending Giggs and Sir Alex on the bench.

Fletcher turned in an energetic display which was central to United's 7-1 Champions League destruction of the Italians. McLeish told The Sun: "Darren went through a hard time from the fans and I hate all that negative stuff. "Yet surely those detractors watched him against Roma and thought again about the wisdom of their words." Fletcher has missed McLeish's first two games in charge of Scotland through injury and suspension. Fletcher is sure to add to his 27 caps under McLeish, with Scotland's next outing a friendly in Austria on 30 May.

Man 7-1 Roma, Fantastic Game From United
United shows their best performance in Old Trafford to advance to the semi-finals of UEFA Champions League. Michael Carrick, Alan Smith and Wayne Rooney all scored inside the opening 20 minutes before Cristiano Ronaldo added a fourth goal before half-time. Ronaldo and Carrick scored again before the hour, and though Daniele De Rossi denied United a clean sheet, Patrice Evra concluded the rout with a seventh goal in the closing 10 minutes. There have been many memorable performances at Old Trafford down the years but few can compare to the display Sir Alex Ferguson's men put on here. The scuffles between fans outside the ground before kick-off were quickly forgotten once the game got underway, with United looking to overturn a 2-1 deficit from the first leg. Carrick opened the scoring on 11 minutes when he picked up the ball from Ronaldo and bent the ball past a stationary Doni. On 17 minutes the second goal arrived as United swept the length of the pitch as Wes Brown, Rooney, Carrick and Gabriel Heinze combined for Ryan Giggs to slip in Smith, who vindicated his selection ahead of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer by steering his shot past an exposed Doni. Rooney got in on the act soon after, timing his run superbly to slot home Giggs' low cross after the Italian side had been completely torn apart down the right flank. Roma's response was for De Rossi to head Pizarro's free-kick just past the upright, but United scented further goals. Ronaldo did make it 4-0 before half-time with a precise finish into the bottom corner after the Roma defence had made the mistake of inviting him to shoot. The second half started with Totti flashing a free-kick wide before United grabbed a fifth after Roma failed to clear a corner after Rooney's initial shot was tipped over by Doni. Ronaldo, slid home a low Giggs' cross for number five before Carrick's piledriver made it 6-0 on the hour mark. Giggs was given a breather for the final half-hour, with his replacement - Solskjaer - lofting a shot onto the roof of the net after Smith had done the same moments earlier. Roma did get one goal back through De Rossi's neat finish on the turn but the game was long since up for the Italian side. The final 20 minutes were passing idly by until United plundered a seventh goal on 81 minutes as Evra started, and finished, a neat move involving Rooney and Solskjaer by dragging a low shot in off the post. Ronaldo foraged forward in injury-time, only to see his low shot saved by Doni before the end. United will take on AC Milan or Bayern Munich in the last four as they look to book their place in this year's final in Athens on 23 May.

"We do recover from defeats and usually we recover well. Our attacking impetus will be much stronger than it was in Rome," Sir Alex told the club's website. "We will make opportunities, and if we take them we have a great chance." United face a difficult test in the form of a Luciano Spalletti team that combines defensive stubbornness with counter-attacking flair, but Rooney's goal make some hope for team to return the leg. Captain Gary Neville and central defender Nemanja Vidic will once again be missing against Roma on Tuesday. However, Ferguson remains confident that United can come through - especially with the backing of the Old Trafford crowd. Old Trafford is not an easy place for other team to come to. United Must Show Mettle
Sir Alex Ferguson has called squad to 'show their mettle' in the Premiership title race after slipping up to Portsmouth. With United now just three points ahead - and with a trip to Stamford Bridge still to come - the season has truly entered what Ferguson once famously described as 'squeaky bum time'. "I won't complain about losing to Portsmouth on Saturday but the main thing now is to recover and show our mettle," said Ferguson in The Sun. United have six league games to play but two big cup ties before that and the 10-day break for those league matches has come at a great time for United. Now Chelsea away is a very important for United, Gary Neville could return for the club's next league outing against Sheffield United on 17th April as the right-back is making progress in his recovery from ankle ligament damage. The French striker, Louis Saha will be on the bench for Tuesday's UEFA Champions League quarter-final, second leg against Roma.

Portsmouth 2-1 Man United
Pompey went ahead when Edwin van der Sar could only parry Benjani's shot and Matt Taylor followed up to score. In a thrilling finale Rio Ferdinand scored an own goal to apparently make the points safe for Portsmouth, before John O'Shea struck in stoppage time to set up one last, desperate rally from United. David James denied Cristiano Ronaldo and Ryan Giggs before Rio Ferdinand put Taylor's pass into his own net to put Pompey 2-0 up. John O'Shea replied from close range but James made sure of victory with a superb last-gasp save from Alan Smith. The result leaves United three points ahead of Chelsea with six games of the season remaining, and the two still have to meet at Stamford Bridge. With Ryan Giggs starting on the bench United were missing a vital spark, as Kieran Richardson and Darren Fletcher were unable to exert any pressure on Pompey. Ronaldo smashed a long-range free-kick wide of James' goal and was close to finding the target again soon after a typically mazy run. Pompey took the lead after 30 minutes as Van der Sar parried Benjani Mwaruwari's long-range effort straight out and Taylor shrugged off the attentions of Ferdinand to reach the rebound first and poke home from eight yards. United responded well and Michael Carrick and Wayne Rooney fired wide before Darren Fletcher forced James into his first save of the match. After break, Linvoy Primus headed over from a Gary O'Neil corner, then Van der Sar had to save smartly after he reacted first to Kanu's flick-on. James then somehow tipped over a powerful Giggs shot and caught a Wes Brown header as United piled on the pressure. Pompey weathered the storm and had a good spell of pressure themselves midway through the second half, when Van der Sar made amends for his earlier gaffe with an acrobatic save. Taylor's cross was turned towards the bottom right corner by Sean Davis but, leaping full-stretch to his left, the Dutchman palmed the ball behind for a corner. Alan Smith was brought on for a final push but United fell 2-0 behind with two minutes remaining as Ferdinand's attempted pass-back went straight into his own net following a breakdown in communications with Van der Sar. That did not deter United and O'Shea gave them hope in injury time when he tucked away the rebound after James fumbled Solskjaer's shot. Smith almost salvaged a point for United with a volley through a crowded penalty area but, on a mixed day for both keepers, James made one final save to clinch the points for Pompey. At the end, score still 2-1 for Poertsmouth victory, this is make united shock.

Ferdinand Critical Of Herbert Fandel
United were angry at German referee Herbert Fandel's performance in the 2-1 defeat against AS Roma in Rome. "Some of the decisions the referee made last night were laughable," said Ferdinand. "If you saw me on the pitch, you would have seen me laughing a few times because the decisions were that bad." Paul Scholes was sent off in Rome and manager Sir Alex Ferguson was critical of referee Fandel after the match. "It makes everyone frustrated. It's not the language. This referee was German but he was speaking good English."I just do not understand some of the decisions the referee gave. He booked Paul Scholes but didn't do anything when Gaby (Heinze) got hit by the same type of tackle. Then he does book Gaby for rolling the ball back. It was a joke.""Refs have got to do that by being talkative to the players and having a conversation with them without looking at you like you're a piece of rubbish.

United Will Probe Crowd Trouble In Roma
eighteenManchester United fans were taken to hospital and two Roma supporters also had treatment after violence erupted around their match against Roma. Missiles were hurled as fans taunted each other and the Italian police drove Manchester United supporters back with batons. "Eighteen Manchester United fans needed medical attention at a local hospital," a spokesman for the police department in Rome said. "Sixteen of the fans were discharged while two of the fans will remain in hospital overnight. However, they are not in serious condition. "We will continue to monitor the situation, but we are hoping there will be no further clashes overnight."UEFA will also be investigating the matter, as communications director William Gaillard confirmed following his attendance in Rome. "There were clearly some very disturbing scenes in the stadium on Wednesday night," said a club spokesman."Until we have had chance to discuss the situation with the British Embassy in Rome and the Italian authorities and to understand the cause, it would be inappropriate to comment."

Rooney Proud With Result
The striker scored United's only goal at the Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday night in the Reds' 2-1 defeat but AS Roma must now come to Manchester for the second leg. United played for more than an hour in the Stadio Olympico with ten-men following the dismissal of Paul Scholes for a second bookable offence. "We knew once we got the goal it would be difficult for them to come to Old Trafford with the fans we have there," Rooney said. "Going down to ten-men in the first-half made it a difficult game. They passed the ball really well,Ronny did brilliantly," praised Rooney. Then Ole(Gunnar Solskjaer) played a great ball in for Rooney and Rooney managed to finish it off. "It was one of the hardest games I've played in. It was a tough job but we're happy with the result in the end."

Reds Can Still Win It
Despite losing Wednesday night's quarter-final first leg in Rome, Sir Alex Ferguson insists the Reds have a "fantastic chance" of winning the tie. United lost their first leg quarter-final clash with Roma 2-1 at the Stadio Olimpico - with goals from Rodrigo Taddei and Mirko Vucinic sandwiching a Wayne Rooney strike, Also given that Paul Scholes was dismissed after just half an hour. "I think it's a good result for us," Sir Alex told Sky Sports. Ferguson was full of praise for Rooney's strike - his first European goal since his United debut two-and-half years ago. "The way the numbers are, we have Park out, Patrice, Mikael Silvestre, Gary Neville we have got a few players out injured and we could do without it - but it was encouraging to get Darren Fletcher back - another player with great energy in the middle of the park and at this time of the season that can be important to us, at Old Trafford we'll have a fantastic chance."" he said.

Alex Ferguson Wants Ronaldo And Rooney To Show Their Class Tonight
Sir Alex Ferguson has promised there is no chance of Manchester United underestimating AS Roma in their Champions League quarter-final tonight. Roma well behind Inter Milan in the battle for Serie A and the Italian game in general. Ferguson admits the duo were somewhat out of their depth when Manchester United faced Milan in the UEFA Champions League two seasons ago, but he believes they have come of age since and are now ready to lead Manchester United into the semi-finals.“We haven’t scored a lot of goals in Europe in the last few years, maybe it's just young players adapting to the Champions League. "When we played Milan a couple of years ago Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo lacked the experience to handle it," said Fergie . "The two years have made such a difference to players like them. Then they were young boys, now they are maturing all the time". “We haven’t scored a lot of goals in Europe in the last few years,” he said. “Maybe it's just young players adapting to the Champions League. "But I don't have an issue with either of them. Wayne's contribution has been very good, while I believe Cristiano is the best player in the world just now."

Ryan Giggs Has Set a Glorious End To His Career

The 33-year-old has had an incredible career at Manchester United, becoming the most decorated player in The Red Devils' history as the club dominated the domestic game.Giggs will be one of the most experienced members of the United team as the Reds take on AS Roma at the Stadio Olimpico tonight in the Champions league quarter final first leg. And the Welsh winger hopes to earn a positive result to keep alive his dream of repeating the 1999 European success."I keep saying the potential and ability are there but, so far, the team have overcome every challenge that has been put in front of them this season," he said."I do want to win another European medal. If I retired with just one Champions League win, it would be a letdown, but you only fulfil potential by winning trophies. “Having a year or two left is also motivation. You can see the finish line so you try to get the most out of your career. At 19 or 20, you can’t see your career ever ending. But when you’re in your thirties you know you’ll be finishing soon, maybe around 35 or 36. "You want to enjoy these days, because I realise in a few years' time I won't be doing it anymore, but the only way you can enjoy it is by winning trophies."

Fergie Wants To Stop Totti
Sir Alex Ferguson is in no doubt about the identity of the man his players have to mark out of the game to prevent Roma scoring in tomorrow night's Champions League quarter-final. "Stop Totti and we won't blow it in Rome," the Manchester United manager said before his team's first-ever visit to the Stadio Olimpico. "Totti is the architect of everything they do and we have to decide how best to deal with him," he said. The issue is what he do with centre-backs and whether they push one on to Totti but they can't let him control the game. It's a tricky one but they have to resolve it as best they can. Wes Brown is set to make his first Champions League start since the defeat at FC Copenhagen in November because united have a problem with Nemanja Vidic and Gery Neville injured.

Cristiano Ronaldo Pursuit
Real Madrid and Barcelona continuing their pursuit of Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo, Cristiano Ronaldo will not join Real Madrid or Barcelona in the summer, says Manchester United legend Bobby Charlton. Charlton believes the player should be left alone to focus on playing for United and is becoming increasingly frustrated by other clubs refusing to back off. 'We get cheesed off with it when we've got players under contract who are very happy with what they're doing and where they are.' Charlton said.

MU vs ROMA

Sir Alex expects tough test

Sir Alex Ferguson believes United have been handed the toughest of this season's Champions League quarter-final ties as they prepare to face Roma on Wednesday.

The Reds fly out to Italy on Tuesday morning ahead of their last eight clash at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.

Wednesday night's first leg clash will be the first competitive meeting between the two sides and Sir Alex admits his players will need to be on top form if they are to come away with a positive result.

"The tie requires two good performances, there's no question about that," he told Manchester United Radio. "We have a lot of respect for Roma. They beat Lyon, who I regarded as one of the favourites for the competition, in the last round and didn't lose a goal. That speaks volumes for their quality.

"We're not underestimating our task, it'll be a difficult one. It's probably the toughest quarter-final of all the ties."

The Reds face a Roma side featuring a host of experienced internationals, but Sir Alex has earmarked Francesco Totti as the player they'll need to a keep a particularly close eye on.

"Totti is the architect of everything they do and we have to decide how best to deal with him," insisted the Reds' manager. "Roma have a system which is difficult to play against - they don't have a central striker, instead they play with two wide players and flood the midfield.

"That means our two centre halves could be standing around doing nothing for most of the game. So it's a little bit of a tricky one but we have to resolve it as best we can."(www.manutd.com)

Louis Saha is ready to hand Manchester United a huge boost by making his return to action this week.

The Frenchman will be available for United's UEFA Champions League trip to Italy after overcoming his hamstring injury.

Saha has not played for a nearly a month, but he is now fully fit - although lacking in match fitness - and he insists he cannot wait to play again.

"I don't think I could be any fresher," he told The Mirror.

"I've missed quite a few games this year and I've so much pent-up energy that I want to get out of my system.

"I feel like I've got something to prove again. I'm raring to go. I'm confident and I want to be back playing and scoring goals.

"We're in a great position and if you look at what we have done in the past six months, it's amazing. Everyone is playing with confidence, we defend well and have been good going forward.

"But we can't say it is a job well done until we win the Premiership. If we don't, then the hard work is wasted. It will feel like six months for nothing. We have to get the trophy and finish the job."

Despite the fact Saha is available, Sir Alex Ferguson looks set to leave the former Fulham man behind when United travel to the Italian capital.

Instead of playing at the Stadio Olimpico, Saha instead looks set to play in a reserve team encounter at Blackburn on Thursday.

Should Saha turn out for United's second string, then he is likely to line-up alongside Darren Fletcher.

The Scottish international has made a quick recovery from the ankle injury he picked up in February.(www.skysports.com)

Totti: remember my name

Roma striker Francesco Totti has issued a warning to United ahead of Wednesday night's crunch Champions League quarter final first leg.

The 30-year-old marksman, who currently leads the scoring charts in Serie A, is miffed Sir Alex failed to name him as a threat after the quarter final draw was made in early March. Instead, the Reds' boss singled out Roma midfielders Daniele De Rossi and Alessandro Mancini.

"Ferguson, you will learn who Totti is," the striker promised during an interview with Sky. "He will see personally. I hope to make him remember my name."

And even though he expects to be man-marked when the teams meet in Rome on Wednesday, Totti says it's a situation he's grown accustomed to.

"So they are going to put me in a cage? Opponents always make a cage for me. When I grow up I won't be a footballer but I will work at the zoo with all the cages people have made for me."

The centre-forward has scored 18 times in the league this season. He's also netted four times in this season's Champions League campaign, including one against Lyon in the last round.

"We are coming into the match in the right condition at the best possible moment," Totti said. "To have got to this point after so many years is a great achievement, but we don't want to stop here. There are even bigger satisfactions further on in the competition."(www.manutd.com)
