Giggs: Manchester United Can Be Confident Go Through
Ryan GiggsRyan Giggs says Manchester United remain confident of overcoming AC Milan after last night's 3-2 Champions League first-leg triumph at Old Trafford.
"It was always going to be tough," he told MUTV. "We didn't want to give away goals but we've got to go out there with confidence.
"It's not always possible to play great football every week, so not playing well and winning can make all the difference, especially at this stage of the season. We've done it a few times this season and it's what we used to do when we were winning titles."
Giggs, who supplied the pass for Rooney's injury-time winner, praised the character shown in coming back from conceding two goals in the first half at Old Trafford. He feels United are capable of scoring at San Siro like first leg, with PFA Player of the Year Cristiano Ronaldo also in fine form.
"If we keep our tempo and keep our shape we will create chances," said Giggs.
"Of course it will be difficult at the San Siro, but I saw enough in our second-half display to know we can get a good result."
"We knew at half-time if we did not panic we would be able to carve out openings and that's what happened.
"We kept playing our football and showed a lot of patience.
"To get the winner in stoppage time showed a lot of character. I am pleased we came back so well and put most of our chances away.
"We ended the game on a high and can go there with confidence, although maybe we will need to defend better."
