 United took an early lead when Kieran Richardson slotted home after Wayne Rooney had collected Paul Scholes' pass and rounded Boro keeper Mark Schwarzer. Viduka equalized by beating United defender Wes Brown with a diving header from a cross by Stewart Downing.Rooney had several late chances and Michael Carrick watched an 89th-minute shot go over the bar as United dominated but could not find a winner. Rio Ferdinand went off at half-time with a groin injury and was struggling shortly before Viduka's goal.
"The injuries to Rio Ferdinand and Kieran Richardson killed us in the first half," said Ferguson.United brought on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but it was Boro who next threatened as Lee Cattermole went agonisingly close with a good powerful shot.Ole did get the ball in the net, but all he earned was a booking for unsporting behaviour towards Schwarzer. I think this is a bad game of united at home in this season. |
