United Will Probe Crowd Trouble In Roma
eighteenManchester United fans were taken to hospital and two Roma supporters also had treatment after violence erupted around their match against Roma. Missiles were hurled as fans taunted each other and the Italian police drove Manchester United supporters back with batons. "Eighteen Manchester United fans needed medical attention at a local hospital," a spokesman for the police department in Rome said. "Sixteen of the fans were discharged while two of the fans will remain in hospital overnight. However, they are not in serious condition. "We will continue to monitor the situation, but we are hoping there will be no further clashes overnight."UEFA will also be investigating the matter, as communications director William Gaillard confirmed following his attendance in Rome. "There were clearly some very disturbing scenes in the stadium on Wednesday night," said a club spokesman."Until we have had chance to discuss the situation with the British Embassy in Rome and the Italian authorities and to understand the cause, it would be inappropriate to comment."
